Four police officers hospitalised in PM security crash

Two Tasmanian Police officers and two Australian Federal Police officers have been taken to hospital following the car crash involving the Prime Minister’s security detail.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison was not injured or involved in the accident.

Mr Morrison's security detail received non-life-threatening injuries in the smash, which is being investigated by police.

"Circumstances surrounding the crash are being investigated, however initial enquiries indicate that the Triton has collided with the rear of the police vehicle while attempting to merge," a Tasmania Police statement read.

The Prime Minister’s remaining events on Thursday have been cancelled, while Mr Morrison extended his best wishes to the officers involved.

“The PM is always grateful for the protection provided by his security team and extends his best wishes for their recovery and to their families,” the Prime Minister’s office said.
