Media allowed Russia collusion hoax to ‘spread on social media’

Media outlets allowed the Russia collusion hoax to “proliferate through social media” even though the story was completely false, according to Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton.

Mr Houghton discussed ABC’s Four Corners special on former US President Donald Trump’s alleged connections to Russia with Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

“Four Corners took a lot of that reporting, and they assumed that the substance of that reporting was correct,” Mr Houghton said.

“This is the most remarkable story because what this shows is a coordinated effort to allow these lies to propagate.

“It’s honestly a really big shame that our national broadcaster hasn’t apologised for its role in this misinformation.”
