Petrol prices ‘could still rise’ despite fuel excise cut

The Morrison government is still considering including a temporary cut to fuel excise despite the possibility the slash could fail to stymie rising prices at the pump.

The Australian has reported the Morrison government is planning to include a fuel excise cut of 10 to 20 cents per litre in Tuesday’s budget.

“Petrol prices could still rise despite this,” Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennnell said.

“Some noises out of government to indicate they will crack down on gouging, but if the worldwide price goes up … tough luck.”
