Pharmacy Guild: You can’t ‘flick a switch’ for rapid test availability

National President of Pharmacy Guild Australia Trent Twomey says “you can’t just flick a switch” and get rapid antigen tests into every pharmacy and retail outlet “with a week’s notice”.

It comes after National Cabinet agreed PCR tests would no longer be required to confirm a positive rapid antigen test result.

“We weren’t given any forewarning that that switch was being flicked, where we were going from pathology-based PCR as the mainstay, supplemented by point of care, to point of care being the mainstay, supplemented by pathology,” Mr Twomey told Sky News host Chris Smith.

“If National Cabinet … had given us notice that they were going to flip that switch, we would have ordered up, we would have stocked up, and we would have had plenty.”
