Upgrading the grid for the 21st century is a ‘centrepiece’ of govt’s energy plan

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says upgrading the grid for the 21st century is a centrepiece of the government’s energy plan.

Mr Albanese also said the government's climate bill to legislate Labor’s emissions reduction target does not hasten the closure of coal and gas projects.

Labor's climate bill passed through the House of Representatives on Thursday.

“Markets are operating in a way that is shifting towards cleaner, cheaper energy,” Mr Albanese said during a media conference.

“The problem has been that whilst that has been occurring, there hasn't been the investment certainty for renewables, and there also hasn't been the work done on transmission to make sure that the grid is upgraded for the 21st century.”
