US-Australia relationship ‘critical’ in addressing ‘multifaceted’ challenges from China


US State Department Counselor Derek Chollet says the United States views China as having “both the capability and the intent to try to remake the world order”.

“In response to that we need to stand strong with our allies and partners,” he told Sky News Australia. 

“We need to invest in ourselves here at home to be able to compete with the PRC.”

Mr Chollet discussed the importance of Australia’s relationship with the US in dealing with their shared concerns over China’s behaviour in the Pacific region.

“The US-Australian relationship is going to be absolutely critical as we are addressing the multifaceted challenges that’s coming from the PRC,” he said.
